Dental Exams and Cleanings Edmonton
Exams and cleanings that look closely at your teeth and gums, so small problems can stay small.
Exams that look closely
A dental exam is more than a quick check. We review your medical history, look at soft tissues, teeth and gums, and may use digital X-rays and photographs when they help. The goal is early detection, which supports tooth preservation.

Hygiene and cleanings
Our registered dental hygienists provide professional cleanings. We use Guided Biofilm Therapy with EMS Airflow as described on our teeth cleaning page. Polishing and scaling remove plaque, stain and tartar so your gums and restorations stay healthier.
Typical visit building blocks
In Alberta, dental offices often use Canadian Dental Association Uniform System of Coding and List of Services (USC and LS) procedure codes. Common educational examples from the public 2026 Alberta Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide for general dentists include a complete exam (01103), a recall exam (01202), bitewing images (02142), polishing (11101) and scaling by time unit (11111). Those figures are suggested reference fees, not our office fees. See dental fees and insurance for how Alberta fees work.

How this ties to preservation
Regular exams and cleanings help protect natural teeth and any work you already have, including Bioclear restorations. If we find decay, a crack or gum inflammation, we talk through options such as tooth coloured fillings, gum care or root canal therapy before larger problems develop.
Related care
Related care at Signature Dental: Bioclear restorations for worn, chipped or gapped teeth, root canal therapy intended to save a natural tooth, and Invisalign clear aligners. Dr. Bustamante provides all of these as a general dentist.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I have an exam and cleaning?
It depends on your gums, history and risk of decay. After your visit we recommend a recall schedule that suits you.
Will I need X-rays?
Your exam may include digital X-rays when they help diagnosis. We explain why before we take them.
What is Guided Biofilm Therapy?
It is the hygiene approach we use with EMS Airflow. See our teeth cleaning page for details.
Do you publish prices for exams and cleanings?
We provide a written estimate for your planned care. Alberta has a suggested fee guide that dentists may use as a reference; each office sets its own fees. See fees and insurance.
Can I book a cleaning only?
Call (780) 482-3636 and we will help you book the right visit. Many first visits include an exam so we understand your mouth before we clean.
