Gum Health Edmonton

Healthy gums help keep the teeth you still have. We assess, clean and plan care with you.

Gums hold your teeth in place

Gum inflammation and periodontal disease can loosen the support around teeth. Catching bleeding, tartar and pocket changes early is part of preserving your natural teeth. Our exams and hygiene visits include a look at gum health.

What care can include

  • Periodontal charting and exams when indicated
  • Professional cleaning with attention to biofilm and tartar (see teeth cleaning)
  • Root planing units when deeper cleaning of root surfaces is needed
  • A home care plan and a recall interval that fits your risk

The public 2026 Alberta Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide lists suggested fees for periodontal examination (01501) and root planing by time unit (43421 and related). Those are reference suggestions only. Your estimate will be specific to you.

How gum care connects to the rest of your smile

Inflamed gums can affect the look of restorations and spaces near the gumline. After gum health is stable, options such as Bioclear for black triangles or Invisalign may be discussed when suitable. Start with preventive dentistry and exams and cleanings.

Related care

Related care at Signature Dental: Bioclear restorations for worn, chipped or gapped teeth, root canal therapy intended to save a natural tooth, and Invisalign clear aligners. Dr. Bustamante provides all of these as a general dentist.

Frequently asked questions

What are signs of gum problems?

Bleeding when you brush, persistent bad breath, receding gums, loose teeth or gum tenderness can be signs. An exam confirms what is going on.

Is gum disease reversible?

Early gingivitis often improves with professional cleaning and home care. More advanced periodontitis needs ongoing management. We explain your stage and plan.

Do you treat gum disease surgically?

Call us about your case. Some care is provided here; advanced surgical needs may involve a referral. Ask us what is handled in office.

How often should I come in if I have gum disease?

Often more frequently than twice a year. We set intervals based on your response to care.

How do I book a gum assessment?
