Quick answer

What does preventive dentistry include?

Preventive dentistry is the care that helps you avoid bigger problems: a careful exam of your teeth, gums and bone, an oral cancer screening and a hygiene visit. At Signature Dental in downtown Edmonton, cleanings use Guided Biofilm Therapy with EMS AirFlow, and your recall schedule is based on your needs. Appointments start at 7:00 AM, Monday to Thursday.

Small signs are worth a check

  • Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
  • A mouth sore not healed in 7 to 10 days
  • A while since your last checkup

Care here is provided by Dr. Rafael Bustamante, General Dentist. For more serious gum disease, we may refer you to a periodontist, a recognized dental specialty.

FAQ

Quick answers

How often should I get a checkup?

It depends on your needs. The CDA notes many people need an exam every six months, and we recommend a schedule for you.

Do I need X-rays every year?

Not necessarily. The CDA notes a healthy adult with no recent cavities probably does not need them every visit.

Why do my gums bleed when I floss?

Often it is gingivitis, early gum inflammation that cleanings and daily care can reverse.

Why get a cleaning if I brush every day?

Once plaque hardens into tartar, a toothbrush cannot remove it.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, we are accepting new patients.
