Cracked Tooth and Toothache Edmonton

Pain and cracks need a careful look. We examine first, then explain ways to keep your tooth when we can.

Pain is a signal. We look for the cause.

A toothache or a cracked tooth can come from decay, a fracture, gum issues, a failing filling or an irritated nerve. Guessing from home is hard. An exam, and sometimes X-rays or a closer look under magnification, helps us find the cause.

Options we may discuss

Dr. Bustamante uses microscope magnification in clinical practice, which can help when looking for fractures. Treatment still depends on your diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my tooth hurt only when I bite?

That pattern can suggest a crack, a high filling or other bite issues. An exam is needed to tell.

Can a cracked tooth be saved?

Sometimes yes, with a bonded restoration, a crown or root canal therapy. Sometimes no. We explain what we see.

Do I need a root canal for every toothache?

No. Many toothaches have other causes. We diagnose first.

Should I take antibiotics from home?

Do not start leftover antibiotics on your own. Call us or seek medical advice for infection concerns.

How soon should I be seen?

Sooner is better for pain, swelling or a broken tooth. Call during office hours.

What if my tooth is chipped but does not hurt?

A chip without pain is usually not urgent, but have it checked soon so the edge does not break further. See our page on chipped or broken front teeth.
