Dental Crowns Edmonton
A crown covers and protects a damaged tooth so it can keep working in your smile.
When a tooth needs a full cover
A crown (sometimes called a cap) covers the visible part of a tooth to restore strength, shape and appearance. Crowns are often discussed after large fillings, fractures, root canal therapy or heavy wear. Our aim is still preservation: keep your own root and as much tooth as we can.

How we decide with you
Sometimes a large filling or Bioclear restoration is enough. Sometimes a crown is the more suitable protection. After root canal therapy, many teeth benefit from a protective restoration. We set out benefits, limits, visit count and costs before you decide.
Process in plain language
- Exam and images, sometimes including a digital scan instead of goopy trays
- Discussion of material options suitable for your tooth
- Preparation of the tooth and a temporary crown when needed
- Lab fabrication of the final crown (lab fees are separate from the dentist fee in many guides)
- Try in, adjust and cement the final crown
The public 2026 Alberta Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide lists an uncomplicated porcelain fused to metal crown (code 27211) as a suggested dentist fee plus laboratory charges that vary. That is a reference amount only, not our fee. Ask us for a written estimate.

Looking after a crowned tooth
Brush, clean between teeth and keep hygiene visits. If you grind your teeth, we may discuss a night guard. Ask us whether a night guard suits you. See restorative dentistry for bridges and related options.

Frequently asked questions
How many visits does a crown take?
Often more than one visit. We outline the schedule for your case.
Is a crown always better than a large filling?
Not always. We compare options based on remaining tooth, bite and goals.
What about crowns after a root canal?
A protective restoration is often needed after root canal therapy. We will explain what suits the remaining tooth.
Do you publish crown prices online?
No specific office prices are listed online. We provide estimates before treatment. Alberta’s suggested fee guide is a public reference only.
